1 lb ground beef (hamburger)
1 cup frozen peas
1 cup frozen corn
2 jars of mushroom gravy
4 cups prepared mashed potatoes
1 cup shredded cheese (optional, for topping)
Preheat Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Cook Ground Beef:
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain any excess grease.
Add Vegetables:
Add the frozen peas and corn to the skillet with the cooked ground beef. Stir and cook for a few minutes until the vegetables are heated through.
Add Mushroom Gravy:
Pour the mushroom gravy into the skillet with the meat and vegetables. Stir well to combine. Let it simmer for a few minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
Layer in Baking Dish:
Transfer the meat and vegetable mixture to a baking dish, spreading it evenly.
Top with Mashed Potatoes:
Spoon the mashed potatoes over the meat and vegetable mixture, spreading them to cover the entire surface. You can use a spatula to create a smooth layer.
Optional Cheese Topping:
If you choose, sprinkle shredded cheese over half of the Shepherd’s Pie to follow your specified process. This allows for a variation in the final dish.
Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 20-25 minutes or until the Shepherd’s Pie is heated through, and the cheese (if added) is melted and bubbly.
Serve and Enjoy:
Allow the Shepherd’s Pie to cool for a few minutes before serving. Scoop out portions, ensuring to get a bit of each layer, and enjoy the comforting flavors.
